Invites and custom invite URLs

How to create a community invite, limit it, and turn on a vanity URL

1 min readUpdated for the current Astral app

The simplest way to bring people in is an invite link.

Regular invite

  1. Open the community → Invite (or right-click a channel).
  2. Copy the link. By default it lasts 7 days with no use cap. In link settings: never / 30 minutes / 1 hour / 6 hours / 12 hours / 1 day / 7 days; max uses 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, or no limit; temporary membership removes the person when they go offline unless they have a role.
  3. Live invites appear in Community Settings → Invite Links. Revoke them there, or Pause Invites for the whole community.

The person opens the link, sees a preview, and clicks Join. If they are already at the community cap (100 / 200), they must leave another community first.

Custom invite URL

Community Settings → Custom Invite URL (feature + permission required) lets you pick a stable address instead of a random code. Change it carefully: the old vanity path stops working.

Discovery

Public communities can appear in Explore Communities inside Add a Community. Not every space is listed — that is up to the owner and platform rules.
