How to create or join a community

Creating a community, joining from an invite, and browsing public spaces

1 min readUpdated for the current Astral app

A community (sometimes called a server) is a shared space with channels, roles, and members. Free accounts can be in up to 100 communities; Plutonium raises that to 200.

Create

  1. Click + under the community list or press Ctrl / Cmd + Shift + N.
  2. Choose Create Community.
  3. Set a name and an optional icon.
  4. You get a Text Channels category with general and a Voice Channels category with General.

You become the owner. While you own a community you cannot disable or delete the account: transfer ownership first in Community Settings → General.

If the account is still unclaimed, invites for the new community stay locked until you add email and password.

Join

  • In the same modal choose Join Community and paste an invite link or code.
  • Open a link such as astraof.com/invite/... in the browser.
  • Or use Explore Communities to preview public spaces before you enter.

A community can also be full: the usual member cap is about 1,000 (large communities can go to 10,000). Then nobody new can join even if you still have free community slots.

Leave

Right-click the community → Leave. Messages you already sent stay unless you delete them first.

Next: Community channels, Invites and custom invite URLs.
