Search and Quick Switcher

How to search message history and jump between channels, DMs, and people

1 min readUpdated for the current Astral app

Search in a channel

Press Ctrl / Cmd + F or the magnifying glass in the channel header. Type words from the message. You can narrow results by author and date range. Click a hit to jump the transcript there.

Search uses history that is still on Astral’s servers. Deleted messages do not appear. Each page shows 25 hits. If a channel is still indexing, you will see a warning.

You can type filters in the bar:

  • from:name / -from: — author
  • mentions:name — who was mentioned
  • has:link / embed / file / image / video / sound / sticker
  • before: on: during: after: — date
  • in: — channel or community
  • pinned:true / author-type:user|bot|webhook
  • filename: / ext:

The search window itself switches scope: this channel, all communities, DMs only, or combinations.

Quick Switcher

Ctrl / Cmd + K opens the switcher:

  • community channels you belong to;
  • DMs and groups;
  • people (to start a conversation).

Type part of a name. Arrow keys and Enter pick a row.

Other useful jumps:

  • Alt + / — previous / next channel
  • Alt + Shift + / — previous / next unread
  • Ctrl / Cmd + [ / ] — back / forward in panel history
  • Esc — mark the channel read
