How to send, edit, and delete messages

Length limits, editing, deletion, and what happens to attachments

Type in the composer at the bottom of a channel or conversation. Enter sends, Shift + Enter adds a line (you can change this in User Settings → Messages & Media → Input).

Edit and delete

To delete every message you ever sent, use the Privacy Dashboard. The request is queued and starts after 24 hours; you can cancel it. See Requesting data deletion.

Voice notes and quick edit

  • The composer can record a voice note: 1 second to 60 seconds free, or 10 minutes with Plutonium.
  • To edit your last message, send s/old/new or s/old/new/g.

Pins and scheduled messages

  • Pinning needs permission to pin messages. Free channels cap at 10 pins; Plutonium at 50. Open the list from the header (Ctrl / Cmd + P).
  • Scheduled send: right-click Send, pick a time (about one minute ahead, max 30 days). Free accounts can keep 3 scheduled messages; Plutonium can keep 50. Manage them in Inbox → Scheduled.
