How to add friends

Sending a request by AstralTag, who can request you, and what if the account is unclaimed

1 min readUpdated for the current Astral app

A friend in Astral is someone you can message and call more easily. Requests use an AstralTag (name#tag).

Send a request

  1. Open HomeAdd Friend, or the matching button in the list.
  2. Type the full AstralTag, for example Marty_McFly#3.
  3. Send. They will see it in incoming requests.

The account must be claimed. Otherwise you get Claim your account, and requests cannot go out.

Who can request you

User Settings → Privacy Dashboard → Connections:

  • Everyone
  • Friends of Friends
  • Community Members

Turning Everyone on also turns on the other two. Turning either narrower option off also turns Everyone off.

After they accept

They appear in the friends list. You can message, call, set a private nickname only you see, and open their profile. Removing a friend does not block them — that is a separate action: Blocking and privacy settings.
